A Kogi-born cyclist, Mustapha Shehu, has completed a long-distance bicycle journey from Umomi-Ikpokoje in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State to Abuja in a show of support for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s anticipated second-term bid.

According to The Guardian Nigeria, Shehu began the journey on May 29 and arrived at the National Assembly on June 4 after several days on the road.

He said the endurance ride was a personal gesture to appreciate what he described as the senator’s impact on her constituents in Kogi Central Senatorial District.

“I embarked on this solidarity bicycle ride from my community in Ofu Local Government Area to Abuja to show my appreciation and support for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan,” Shehu said.

He added that the journey, though physically demanding, was driven by his belief in grassroots representation and youth engagement in governance.

“The journey was challenging, but my determination kept me going,” he said, noting that the ride was intended to demonstrate support from young people who value effective leadership.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan received the cyclist at the National Assembly, commending his determination and passion. However, she cautioned against long-distance cycling journeys due to prevailing security concerns across Nigeria.

While appreciating the gesture, she clarified that neither she nor her office encouraged the ride, stressing the importance of personal safety.

She also urged the cyclist to pursue structured sporting opportunities through recognised cycling bodies in Nigeria, saying his talent could be better developed within professional platforms.
