Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have rescued Mrs Amina Abubakar, widow of the late Maj Gen Rabe Abubakar, during a military offensive in Katsina State.
According to PUNCH, the Defence Headquarters confirmed that the rescue followed intensified search-and-rescue operations under the Joint Task Force known as Operation Fansan Yamma.
Military officials said troops engaged armed bandits in Tunga Village during sustained clearance operations, forcing the suspects to flee. In the process, the attackers reportedly shot the victim before abandoning her and escaping from advancing forces.
The rescued victim was immediately evacuated to a military medical facility where she is receiving treatment and responding to care. Authorities stated that all necessary support is being provided to aid her recovery.
The operation forms part of wider security actions across Katsina and neighbouring areas, where troops have recently intensified raids, patrols and destruction of criminal hideouts linked to terrorist and bandit networks.
Security forces also confirmed ongoing efforts to track down those responsible for the abduction and related violent attacks in the region.
The late Maj Gen Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, was previously abducted alongside his wife by suspected bandits in Katsina State before dying in captivity.
Military authorities say clearance operations will continue as part of a broader push to dismantle armed groups operating across the North-West.
