The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has sent a high-powered delegation to Katsina State following the death of retired Major General Rabe Abdullahi, who was abducted and later died while in the custody of bandits.

The delegation visited the Katsina State Government on Sunday, assuring that efforts were underway to ensure those responsible are identified and prosecuted. The visit was led by Major General I.M. Abdullahi and included senior officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

They were received by Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe on behalf of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda. The military team described the late officer as a distinguished patriot whose service to the nation would not be forgotten.

According to the Defence Headquarters, security agencies are working jointly to strengthen operations and track down those behind the killing, which has been widely condemned.

Retired Major General Rabe Abdullahi was reportedly kidnapped on 30 May 2026 alongside his wife along the Katsina–Matazu road. He later died in captivity, with state authorities attributing his death to complications linked to diabetes and hypertension, according to the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Mu’azu.

He was buried at Gidan Dawa Cemetery in Katsina metropolis on Saturday evening, following funeral prayers attended by family members, military personnel and mourners.

The Katsina State Government reaffirmed its commitment to working with security agencies to tackle banditry and ensure accountability for crimes across the state.

Channels Television reported that the condolence visit concluded with a one-minute silence in honour of the late officer.
