The Bursar of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Nasiru Marafa, has been shot dead while returning from Gusau, Zamfara State.
The university announced his death in a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its Registrar and Secretary to Council, Oladipo Ajayi.
According to NOUN, Marafa was shot while returning from Gusau. However, the university did not disclose the location of the incident or provide details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The institution described Marafa as a dedicated and committed staff member who served in various positions of responsibility during his career.
NOUN said he was appointed Bursar in September 2026 and assumed the position with a strong sense of duty and commitment to the advancement of the university.
The university described his death as a profound loss, saying it had thrown the NOUN community into mourning.
NOUN also extended condolences to Marafa’s immediate family, relatives, friends, colleagues and others affected by his death.
It said further information on his burial arrangements would be communicated once details were released by the family.
As of the time of the report by Channels Television, no further information had been provided on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
