The Nigeria Police Force has summoned social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, and questioned Assistant Inspector-General of Police Moshood Jimoh over allegations made against the senior officer.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, said the criminal case referenced by VeryDarkMan had already been investigated and was before a court following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
The police stressed that the matter was now for the judiciary to determine, adding that it would not conduct the case through media debates or public commentary.
The statement also disclosed that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department invited AIG Jimoh for questioning as part of an administrative review of the allegations.
According to the police, the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja issued a formal invitation to VeryDarkMan on July 30, 2026, requesting that he appear before investigators and provide evidence to support the claims he made publicly.
The Force said the invitations demonstrated its commitment to investigating credible allegations regardless of the rank of the officer involved or the status of the complainant.
It added that disciplinary proceedings are guided by the Constitution, the Police Act 2020, Police Regulations, Force Orders and established administrative procedures.
While acknowledging citizens’ constitutional right to freedom of expression, the police warned against making unsubstantiated allegations, stating that freedom of expression does not extend to defamation or attempts to influence disciplinary processes through public pressure.
The statement said any officer found culpable after investigations would face appropriate sanctions in line with the law, while individuals making false allegations intended to damage the reputation of officers or the institution could also face legal consequences.
The Force urged VeryDarkMan to honour the invitation from the Force CID and allow both the administrative review and ongoing court proceedings to take their course.
Reiterating that no officer is above the law, the police pledged to uphold professionalism, transparency and accountability in carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.
