Nigeria’s Super Falcons produced a commanding performance to defeat Egypt 6-2 and book their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

According to Channels Television, the nine-goal thriller at Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca saw the 10-time African champions bounce back strongly after their opening defeat of the tournament, securing progression to the knockout stage with an impressive attacking display.

Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring in the 21st minute from the penalty spot after a VAR review confirmed a handball. Gift Monday doubled Nigeria’s advantage in first-half stoppage time, scoring her first goal of the tournament.

Egypt reduced the deficit just before the break when Nadine Ghazi converted a penalty, also awarded following a VAR review, to make it 2-1 at half-time.

The Super Falcons resumed with renewed intensity. Substitute Uchenna Kanu restored Nigeria’s two-goal lead in the 57th minute before Christy Ucheibe calmly converted another penalty in the 81st minute to extend the lead to 4-1.

Ghazi grabbed her second goal three minutes later to give Egypt brief hope, but Nigeria quickly put the result beyond doubt. Captain Rashidat Ajibade converted a fourth penalty for the Super Falcons in the 91st minute before setting up Joy Omewa, who completed the scoring in stoppage time.

Nigeria finished with 59 per cent possession and six goals in a dominant display that sealed a quarter-final place. The match also featured several yellow cards, with Egypt coach Mohamed Kamal among those cautioned.

The victory gives the Super Falcons renewed confidence ahead of their quarter-final clash with Cameroon, as reported by Channels Television.
