Tinubu, APC politicising protests against economic hardship, PDP alleges

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to politicise the legitimate grievances of Nigerians.

“The action of the APC in threatening Nigerians for exercising their democratic and constitutional right to protest in the face of misrule, agonizing poverty, hunger, killings and other harrowing experiences under the Tinubu administration shows that the APC is insensitive and relishes the life-discounting situation in the country,” the PDP alleged in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba on Tuesday.

The party added: “It is an assault on the sensibility of the people that rather than providing answers to how the Tinubu-led APC government in a space of nine months, turned the nation’s economy upside down leading to terrifying food scarcity and catastrophic high cost of living, the APC is seeking to label and clamp down on the suffering masses.

“The APC is insensitive to the fact that because of its policies more than 104 million citizens have sunk deeper into poverty; Nigerians can no longer afford their daily meals with families now going to bed on empty stomachs as poverty rate soars to over 46%.

“Any government that has an idea of macro-economic policy management ought to have recognized that the suffocating policies of abrupt increase in the pump price of petroleum products, high cost of electricity and arbitrary floating of the Naira as executed by the Tinubu administration without due considerations, would have excruciating consequences to the economy as being witnessed today.

“The APC must understand and come to terms with the fact that there is frustration in the land because of the suffocating economic and social policies; laidback attitude to security and massive corruption in the Tinubu administration.

“Instead of being hypocritical by pointing fingers at the opposition, the APC should admit the failure of its policies and take urgent and concrete action to get President Tinubu to lift his knees off the neck of Nigerians so that the people can breathe.”

“If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man’s life, sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility.”

Super Falcons star Comfort Erhabor signs for Crystal Palace

Nigeria international goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor has joined Crystal Palace Women on a two-year deal ahead of the 2026/27 Women’s Super League season.   The 21-year-old goalkeeper completed her move from Portsmouth, where she made six appearances across all competitions after joining the club in July 2025. Crystal Palace announced the signing on Thursday, welcoming Erhabor as the latest addition to their squad. Erhabor said she was excited about the move and viewed it as an important step in her career. “It feels really good to be here. I’m very excited to get started.” Palace manager Jo Potter also welcomed the Nigerian international, describing her as a promising young goalkeeper. Erhabor began her football career at the Brighton & Hove Albion Academy before gaining experience on loan at Hibernian and Plymouth Argyle. Born in the Netherlands and raised in England, she chose to represent Nigeria internationally. She made her Super Falcons debut in February 2026 during a friendly against Cameroon. She was subsequently included in Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. However, she did not feature during the tournament as the Super Falcons were eliminated by eventual champions Cameroon in the quarter-finals. Her move to Crystal Palace follows another recent transfer involving a Super Falcons player in England. Defender Rofiat Imuran joined Aston Villa Women for the 2026/27 season from London City Lionesses.
