Nollywood actor and politician Emeka Ike has expressed concern over the alleged exposure of his personal information from the records of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saying the incident made him feel unsafe for the first time in his life.
Speaking during an interview on News Central Television, the Nigeria Democratic Congress House of Representatives aspirant described the alleged data leak as an abuse of power and a troubling development for citizens’ privacy and security.
According to Ike, the incident left him questioning whether Nigerians can still trust that their personal information is protected.
“It was shocking. It was so disturbing that I felt unsafe. I felt insecure. For the first time, I’m feeling like, is anybody safe in this country anymore?” he said.
The actor alleged that the incident reflected political recklessness and the misuse of authority, arguing that it sent a dangerous message about the handling of citizens’ personal data.
He also confirmed that he has initiated legal proceedings against Lere Olayinka, a media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Ike said his legal team had formally written to Olayinka, INEC, his political party, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the police to document the complaint and ensure the matter is officially recorded.
“Obviously, I will go to court, and my lawyer has already written to Lere and INEC. He has also written my party, the DSS and the police so that it can be on record that stuff like this has happened in Nigeria,” he stated.
The controversy has reignited discussions about data privacy, electoral records security, and the protection of personal information in Nigeria.
