Israel and Iran have announced a fresh pause in hostilities after exchanging strikes despite an earlier ceasefire agreement, according to TheCable.
The latest de-escalation followed a call from US President Donald Trump on Monday, urging both countries to immediately stop military actions and return to negotiations.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel had suspended its strikes, saying the decision came after what he described as a successful operation against targets in Tehran.
Speaking in a video statement, Netanyahu said Israel was “holding its fire” because attacks from Iran had ceased. He warned, however, that any renewed assault would be met with what he described as an overwhelming response.
Iran also announced a halt to its military operations against Israel. In a statement carried by Iranian media, the country’s Khatam al-Anbiya emergency military command said armed forces operations had been suspended.
The Iranian military command nonetheless warned that further action could follow if Israel continued what it called aggression in Lebanon, where Israeli forces have carried out operations against Hezbollah positions.
Reports indicate that Trump and Netanyahu spoke by telephone shortly before the Israeli leader publicly announced the suspension of strikes. Earlier on Monday, Trump said on Truth Social that final negotiations aimed at securing peace were continuing.
The renewed ceasefire comes less than 24 hours after both sides exchanged attacks, raising concerns that the conflict could escalate further across the region.
