Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has been denied entry into Canada ahead of the Black Stars’ opening match at the FIFA World Cup 2026, according.
The report states that Canadian authorities refused the visa application of the former Arsenal FC player due to ongoing sexual assault charges in the United Kingdom. Canada maintains strict immigration rules that restrict entry for foreign nationals facing serious criminal indictments.
Partey, who now plays for Villarreal FC, is currently facing seven counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving four women. He has denied all allegations and entered a not guilty plea to each charge.
The midfielder left the United Kingdom in 2025 after allegations emerged during his time in London. His trial, initially scheduled at Southwark Crown Court, has reportedly been pushed to 2027.
Despite the travel restriction, Partey is still permitted to remain with Ghana’s squad during their training camp in Boston, United States. However, he will not be allowed to cross into Canada for the group-stage match against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto on June 18.
Ghana are expected to proceed with squad preparations while assessing their midfield options ahead of the fixture.
