The Kaduna State Police Command has rescued nine kidnapped victims following a fierce gun battle with suspected bandits in the state, although two police officers lost their lives during the operation.
According to The Guardian Nigeria, the rescue mission was carried out after security operatives received intelligence on the movement of kidnappers in a remote area of Kaduna State. Police teams reportedly engaged the armed criminals in a gunfight that led to the successful rescue of the victims.
The operation, however, came at a heavy cost as two officers were killed in the line of duty while confronting the kidnappers. Several of the criminals were said to have sustained injuries during the exchange of gunfire and fled into nearby forests.
Police authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network responsible for the abductions. The rescued victims were reunited with their families after receiving medical attention.
Kidnapping remains a major security challenge across parts of northern Nigeria, particularly in states such as Kaduna State, where security agencies continue to conduct operations against armed gangs involved in abductions and other violent crimes.
The police commended the bravery of the fallen officers and reaffirmed their commitment to combating kidnapping and restoring security across the state.
