The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun the public display of the personal particulars and credentials of candidates nominated by political parties for the 2027 General Election, including presidential hopefuls Bola Tinubu, Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar and other contenders.

According to Channels Television, the exercise commenced on Saturday in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026 and follows the Commission’s revised timetable for the 2027 General Election.

INEC said the publication forms part of the nomination process for candidates seeking elective offices, including those contesting the January 16, 2027 presidential election. The display is taking place at the Commission’s headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory and across its six Area Council offices to enable public scrutiny of candidates’ submitted documents.

Representing the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Administrative Secretary Bimbo Oladunjoye said the exercise is a legal requirement under Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2026. She explained that INEC is required to publish candidates’ personal particulars, affidavits and other relevant documents in the constituencies where they intend to contest.

Oladunjoye said the publication covers presidential candidates as well as National Assembly candidates contesting elections in the FCT. She urged citizens, political parties, civil society organisations, the media and other stakeholders to carefully examine the displayed information as part of efforts to promote transparency and accountability in the electoral process.

She added that the Commission remains committed to implementing every stage of the 2027 General Election in line with the Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026 and INEC’s regulations and guidelines.

The Commission said the public display is intended to strengthen confidence in the electoral process while giving Nigerians the opportunity to scrutinise the credentials submitted by candidates.
