The passport situation was embarrassing when we first boarded. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), according to Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has cleared a backlog of nearly 60,000 passports in just four working days.

When Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Betta Edu paid him a courtesy call on Tuesday in Abuja, he made this statement.

“The passport situation was embarrassing when we first boarded. We then declared, “It cannot go on!” His principal was cited as saying: “As of this morning, I can tell you that about 60,000 passport backlogs have been cleared, especially 59,906.” This was according to a statement by the minister’s spokeswoman, Alao Babatunde. We had more over 200,000 backlogs on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, when I issued the two-week deadline. We have seen improvement, and I stand by my commitment to removing the backlogs.

Edu claimed that the visit was necessary in order to extend the ministry’s hand of partnership as it works to address issues including poor veteran welfare, underemployment, and societal poverty in addition to human trafficking.

Edu claimed that because the ministry oversees the NIS, it is best positioned to address the problem of people trafficking.

Therefore, the interior minister is promising her his assistance.

We are here to carry out His Excellency President Bola Tinubu’s directive to see the partnership as agents of his #RenewedHope Agenda, and we are here to do so, he continued.

“We pledge to be there for you. Your approach is forward-thinking and admirable, especially at this pivotal juncture in our nation’s history. We cannot work in silos as the President has instructed because there is a lot of work to be done.
