Lagos State’s Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, praised Temilade Openiyi, or Tems, for her historic Grammy Awards win.

In a message sent on Monday afternoon, he emphasized her remarkable talent and commitment.

The 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday night, Tems won the Best African Music Performance award for her song ‘Love Me JeJe’.

Speaking in a post on his X handle, Sanwo-Olu wrote “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Temilade Openiyi @temsbaby, for winning the Best African Music Performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards with her song ‘Love Me JeJe’.

“This historic achievement marks her as the first Nigerian artist to win in this category, showcasing her exceptional talent and dedication.Cultural fashion

“I also commend our other Nigerian nominees, Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, and Davido for their outstanding contributions to music. Your artistry continues to elevate Nigeria’s presence on the global stage, and we are immensely proud of your accomplishments.”

In other news, Social media finance expert Emmanuel Obruste, known as GehGeh, commented on the results of the Grammy Awards that happened over the weekend.

Tems triumphed over some male peers to win the Best African Music Performance award. She took a moment to celebrate her mother while accepting the honor.

In a video made by a self-proclaimed financial expert about the award, he stated that Davido cannot win a Grammy. GehGeh mentioned that the Grammy is simply using Davido to promote the award in Africa.

He also said that after Wizkid and Davido are featured, many Africans will continue to look forward to the award.

GehGeh mentioned that Drake has cautioned the award organizers regarding his work and has stopped sending in his songs for the awards.

According to GehGeh, the social media adviser, Davido was constantly expecting the award and was always enthusiastic, which is part of why he never got it.

In the recording, GehGeh said that those who don’t care about awards are often the ones who win them.

GehGeh also mentioned that if the Awuke singer wins an award, it should be a ‘gum body’ award, similar to the one Wizkid received with Beyoncé.

GehGeh pointed out that Davido’s loss will have an effect because many people see awards as a sign of talent. But the award wasn’t given for talent.

He recommended that Davido refrain from submitting his songs for the awards.

Soldiers raid UNIOSUN hostels, students allege assault and seizure of phones

Military personnel from the Army Depot in Osogbo have been accused of invading student hostels at the University of Osun (UNIOSUN), allegedly assaulting students and confiscating dozens of mobile phones.   According to TheCable, the incident occurred on Monday night and affected several off-campus hostels near the university. Speaking during a visit to the affected hostels on Tuesday, Vice-Chancellor Clement Adeboye said the university had formally reported the incident to the management of the Army Depot. “We have reported to the management of the depot. It is sad that the Army Depot, located close to the campus, which we felt would give us security cover, could eventually release men that will subject our students to this kind of harrowing experience,” he said. UNIOSUN spokesperson Ademola Adesoji alleged that more than 20 students had been identified as victims of the operation. He claimed some female students reported being stripped and indecently touched by the soldiers, while several male students were also assaulted. Adesoji said two students were hospitalised following the incident, with one discharged on Tuesday morning. He further alleged that the soldiers seized more than 60 devices, including mobile phones, from the students. “Over 60 gadgets, including phones, were seized from the students. Five of the perpetrators were identified and brought to the campus this morning,” Adesoji told TheCable. “But they were later returned to the military base. The army division said they would be dismissed. “The VC has taken the matter up with the army authority. We can’t confirm the alleged rape yet.” There has been no official response from the Nigerian Army at the time of filing this report.
