Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah says the newly developed Enugu International Hospital is designed to deliver world-class healthcare services to people across all socioeconomic classes.

Mbah made the statement during a pre-launch tour of the facility ahead of its official commissioning.

The governor said the hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment and advanced digital and electronic systems, positioning it to attract leading medical professionals from Nigeria and abroad.

According to the governor, the investment is expected to strengthen Enugu’s position as a medical tourism destination while reducing the number of Nigerians travelling overseas for specialist treatment.

Mbah also disclosed that several Enugu-trained medical practitioners living abroad had expressed interest in returning to work at the facility and contribute to the state’s healthcare development.

Advanced specialist care

The more than 300-bed hospital operates as a comprehensive quaternary healthcare facility, offering highly specialised medical services.

During the inspection, Mbah toured the Precision Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Unit, specialised surgical theatres, intensive care units, advanced diagnostic and imaging facilities, and renal care and dialysis units.

He also inspected the cancer, heart and vascular, nuclear medicine and molecular imaging, neuroscience, and renal centres.

The governor said the facility would create employment opportunities for medical graduates, healthcare professionals and other workers, while supporting wider economic activity in the state.

The development comes as Enugu seeks to expand access to advanced healthcare and establish itself as a major medical hub in Nigeria.
