Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited has built a state-of-the-art laboratory complex at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi under its flagship Hospital Support Programme.

Speaking at the commissioning on Thursday, NLNG Managing Director Dr. Philip Mshelbila stated that while the company’s operations are mainly in the Niger Delta, its impact reaches communities across the country.

Represented by the General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Dr Sophia Horsfall, he stated that the project cost $500,000.

He reaffirmed the commitment of NLNG to improving lives across Nigeria through sustainable healthcare infrastructure, emphasising that “The company’s mission is not limited by geography but inspired by the collective need for progress in Nigeria’s healthcare system.

“The newly commissioned lab complex was built and fully equipped based on a detailed needs assessment by the hospital management, and the facility is expected to significantly improve diagnostic services and support both healthcare workers and patients in providing and receiving timely and quality medical care.”

Mshelbila highlighted that the programme, which launched in July 2021, provides a hospital support programme across 12 federal university teaching hospitals across Nigeria, including facilities in the six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory.

Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, Dr Yusuf Bara, expressed gratitude to Nigeria LNG Limited for its generous support through the Hospital Support Programme, which led to the construction of a world-class Laboratory Complex at the hospital.

Bara described the intervention as “More than the unveiling of a facility, but a bold step in strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare delivery, especially in the Northeast.

“The new laboratory stands as a response against public health challenges such as Lassa fever, cancer, and antibiotic resistance.”

He also highlighted the facility’s role in driving high-level research and academic training, while using the medium to appeal for further support in constructing and equipping a Community Medicine and Public Health Complex.

EFCC arraigns Blessing CEO over alleged N36m fraud

Social media influencer and relationship therapist Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, has been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged ₦36 million fraud case in Lagos. The influencer was docked before the Federal High Court in Ikoyi on Friday on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and alleged theft. The EFCC alleged that Blessing CEO obtained ₦36 million from one Mrs Ifeyinwa Nonye Okoye between July 14 and 17, 2024, under the pretext of securing a six-bedroom duplex in Lekki, Lagos. Prosecutors claimed the representation was false and violated provisions of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006. The anti-graft agency also accused her of converting the funds for personal use. Blessing CEO pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read before the court. Following her plea, EFCC counsel requested that she be remanded pending trial, while her defence team informed the court that they had just received the charge documents and intended to file a bail application. Justice D.I. Dipeolu subsequently ordered that she be remanded in EFCC custody pending the hearing of her bail application. The matter was adjourned until June 5, 2026, for trial.
