The Federal Government has declared Friday, 12 June 2026, a public holiday to mark Democracy Day in Nigeria.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, according to a statement issued on Thursday and reported by Channels Television.
Democracy Day is observed annually on 12 June in Nigeria to commemorate the country’s 1993 presidential election, widely regarded as a key moment in its democratic journey.
The federal government said the public holiday is intended to honour the significance of the day in Nigeria’s political history and reflect on the democratic process.
