The outgoing Theatre Commander of the North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abubakar Abdulsalam, says more than N350m linked to terrorist financiers was intercepted during his tenure.
Abdulsalam disclosed this on Tuesday at the headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, Borno State, during a press briefing marking his exit from the theatre.
He said he assumed command on April 28, 2025, with a mandate to help restore normalcy across the North-East and create an environment where socio-economic activities could thrive.
According to him, the military’s achievements included the return of more than 7,000 displaced families to their ancestral communities, the reopening of markets and major supply routes, and the return of schools and examinations to previously affected areas.
“No fewer than 300 explosive devices were discovered and safely detonated from April 25 to date,” Abdulsalam said.
He added that 758 terrorist logistics collaborators had been captured, while more than N350m from terrorist financiers was intercepted.
The commander also disclosed that more than 3,000 people had been repatriated from Cameroon.
He said the NYSC Orientation Camp had returned to Maiduguri after more than 13 years, while WAEC and NECO examinations were again being conducted in communities including Banki and Gwoza.
Abdulsalam further said troops had neutralised more than 1,200 JAS and ISWAP terrorists, including 216 top-ranking commanders.
He added that troops recovered more than 500 assorted weapons and 25,000 rounds of ammunition during the period.
The outgoing commander attributed the recent increase in terrorist surrenders to sustained military pressure and non-kinetic measures designed to provide pathways for those willing to abandon terrorism.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the military leadership and the Borno State Government for their support during his tenure.
