The National Youth Service Corps has warned corps members and the public to disregard a fake redeployment notice circulating on social media, stressing that it did not issue the message.

According to a Punch report, the fraudulent notice claimed that a special redeployment window had been opened for corps members on grounds of national security, health and the state of the nation.

The fake message, addressed to parents and guardians, urged eligible corps members to apply immediately and included phone numbers for those seeking assistance. It also claimed that valid documents were required and that applications must follow NYSC guidelines.

In response, the NYSC flagged the notice as fake on its verified X account, @officialnyscng, publishing it with a bold “FAKE NEWS” watermark under a disclaimer.

The scheme said it had not authorised the notice and urged corps members to rely only on official communication channels.

The NYSC noted that fraudsters have repeatedly exploited the redeployment process to deceive corps members and their families into making payments or sharing personal information.

The agency reiterated that all deployment and redeployment matters are handled exclusively through its official portal and designated offices. It added that it does not authorise agents or phone-based processing for redeployment requests.

Corps members and members of the public were advised to verify any NYSC-related announcements through the scheme’s official website and verified social media accounts before taking any action or making payments.
