Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has alleged that a suspicious credit was paid into one of his private bank accounts, raising concerns that his confidential banking information may have been compromised.

According to a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, the transfer came from an unidentified individual with the narration, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign.”

The statement said neither Atiku nor his campaign requested, authorised or had prior knowledge of the payment.

It added that the transaction was particularly concerning because the bank account is strictly private and its details are not publicly available.

Atiku questioned how unknown individuals obtained the confidential banking details, warning that if the information was accessed through people with privileged access, it would represent a serious breach of financial privacy.

He said the incident raised wider concerns for all Nigerians, arguing that if the private banking information of a former vice president and leading presidential candidate could be accessed, then the financial privacy of ordinary citizens could also be at risk.

The former vice president further warned that any confirmed breach of confidential banking information could expose account holders to threats from kidnappers, terrorists, bandits, fraudsters and other criminal elements.

Atiku said security agencies and the Nigerian public had been notified of what he described as the latest in a series of suspicious activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He also urged Nigerians not to be distracted by what he called attempts to tarnish his reputation as political activities gather pace, insisting that such tactics had failed in the past and would fail again.

Reaffirming his political commitment, Atiku said he remained focused on providing credible leadership and practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
