Liverpool have confirmed the departure of head coach Arne Slot with immediate effect, bringing an end to a successful two-year spell at Anfield.
The announcement was made on Saturday in a statement published by Liverpool FC, which said the club had already begun the process of appointing a new manager.
Slot joined Liverpool in June 2024 and enjoyed a remarkable debut campaign, guiding the Reds to their 20th English league title. His achievements earned him the League Managers Association Manager of the Year award.
During his tenure, Liverpool also reached the Carabao Cup final and the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League in the 2024-25 season. In the following campaign, the club secured Champions League qualification once again and advanced to the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite competition.
In its statement, Liverpool’s ownership described the decision as a difficult one, praising Slot’s contribution, leadership and professionalism throughout his time at the club.
The club said his impact had been “significant, meaningful and successful”, highlighting the Dutch coach’s work ethic, diligence and expertise.
Liverpool added that the decision was taken after concluding that a change in direction was necessary to ensure continued progress.
The club paid tribute to Slot’s place in Liverpool’s history, noting that he would always be remembered as the manager who delivered the club’s 20th league championship in his first season in charge.
Liverpool also thanked the Dutchman for his service and said he would always be welcome at Anfield.
