ADC claims majority of Nigerians dissatisfied with Tinubu’s performance

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has seized on a recent public opinion survey to intensify criticism of President Bola Tinubu, claiming the findings reflect widespread dissatisfaction with his administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, a government approval survey placed the President’s approval rating at 30 per cent after three years in office.

The ADC said the findings indicate that a majority of Nigerians are unhappy with the administration’s handling of economic and security challenges. The party argued that worsening living conditions, unemployment and insecurity have eroded public confidence in the government.

Referencing the survey, Abdullahi stated that more than 73 per cent of Nigerians who reported worsening personal circumstances under the current administration also disapproved of the President’s performance.

“The verdict from the Nigerian people is unmistakable,” the ADC spokesman said, arguing that the government could no longer attribute the nation’s difficulties to inherited challenges after three years in power.

The party further cited survey data showing that 62 per cent of respondents believed they were worse off than when Tinubu assumed office in May 2023, while only 23.3 per cent said their lives had improved. It also pointed to rising food prices, increased transportation costs and growing economic pressures on households and businesses.

ADC maintained that the administration’s economic reforms had failed to deliver tangible benefits for many Nigerians, despite government claims of progress in stabilising the economy.

On security, the opposition party said many communities continue to face threats from banditry, terrorism and kidnapping, while farmers in some regions remain unable to access their farmlands safely.

The statement comes amid increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 elections. The ADC recently selected Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate, with the former vice-president calling for unity within the party following his nomination.

The party said the survey should serve as a warning to the government and a reflection of public sentiment as Nigeria moves closer to the next presidential election.
