Police in Ekiti State have detained four Pakistani nationals after residents raised alarm over their presence in Iyin-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The development was confirmed in a report published by TheCable, citing counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama.
According to the report, the incident began after locals noticed unfamiliar individuals in the community, prompting a distress call to the Iyin-Ekiti police division on 9 June.
Police operatives were deployed immediately and intercepted four men identified as Muhammad Yusuf, Ghani Abdul, Abdul Jabbar and another Yusuf Muhammad.
The suspects reportedly told investigators they were Pakistani nationals who travelled to Nigeria to sell mobile phones and engage in sightseeing activities.
However, police sources said they were unable to provide satisfactory documentation or clear explanations for their presence in the community at the time of arrest.
Authorities have since taken them into custody for further questioning, including verification of their identities and purpose of entry into the country.
The Ekiti State Police Command said investigations are ongoing to determine whether any laws were breached and to clarify the circumstances surrounding their visit.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and continue reporting suspicious movements to security agencies as checks continue across the state.
