The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a rise in voter registration figures ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election, confirming that registered voters have surpassed one million.

The commission, referring to the Independent National Electoral Commission, said voter numbers in Ekiti State increased from 987,647 in 2023 to 1,059,360 in 2026.

It added that Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected reached 1,028,929, representing more than 97 per cent collection rate among registered voters. INEC also confirmed that it had concluded PVC distribution ahead of the governorship poll scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The commission noted that 14,406 applications for replacement PVCs were processed following reports of loss, damage or defacement, with most already collected.

INEC said the option of downloadable voter cards was not deployed due to incomplete infrastructure, but indicated it would be available in future elections, including the 2027 general election cycle.

The commission urged eligible voters who have collected their PVCs to turn out peacefully and participate in the election, reaffirming its commitment to a credible and inclusive poll.
