Motorists and commuters were stranded on Monday as protesters blocked the busy Iwo Road interchange in Ibadan, Oyo State, causing major traffic disruption.
The demonstration, led by the Take It Back Movement, demanded the immediate release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers taken in Orire Local Government Area in May. Organisers said about 46 students and teachers remain in captivity and called for urgent government action.
Speaking during the protest, the group’s national coordinator, Juwon Sanyaolu, said the action was part of ongoing pressure on authorities to secure the victims’ release. He criticised political leaders for focusing on preparations for the 2027 elections while insecurity persists across the country.
The protest caused heavy gridlock along one of Ibadan’s busiest transport corridors, forcing motorists to divert routes and some commuters to continue on foot.
