Americans in UK urged to stay vigilant amid rising terror threat

The United States has urged its citizens in the United Kingdom (UK) to remain vigilant after British authorities raised the national terrorism threat level to “severe”, signalling that an attack is highly likely.

The warning follows an antisemitic stabbing in Golders Green, north London, where two Jewish men, Shloime Rand and Moshe Shine, were injured. The Metropolitan Police has since classified the incident as terrorism-related.

According to the UK government, the decision to elevate the threat level from “substantial” to “severe” was not based solely on the London attack. Security officials pointed to a broader rise in threats linked to Islamist extremism and far-right activity.

Dan Jarvis, the UK security minister, said the move reflects growing concern across multiple threat streams, rather than a single event.

In response, the US Embassy issued a security alert advising Americans in the UK to take extra precautions. The guidance includes staying alert in crowded areas such as schools, hospitals, churches, tourist sites and transport hubs.

Citizens were also encouraged to vary travel routines, maintain situational awareness, and review personal security plans. The embassy further urged individuals to report suspicious activity and monitor local news for updates.

The alert underscores heightened transatlantic concern over evolving security risks, as authorities continue to assess intelligence and prevent potential attacks.
