The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced Damilola Sonayon-James as its deputy governorship candidate for Lagos State ahead of the 2027 elections, according to TheCable.

The decision was disclosed by Cornelius Ojelabi, chairman of the Lagos APC and the forum of APC state chairmen, following what the party described as extensive consultations and a rigorous selection process.

Ojelabi said the selection was based on competence, leadership capacity, grassroots acceptance, party loyalty and the ability to support development in Lagos State.

Sonayon-James, aged 41, currently serves as the APC deputy woman leader in Lagos State and previously held office as supervisor for agriculture and social services in Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

She has more than 15 years’ experience in governance, public policy, institutional development, sustainability and community engagement.

The party said she had been active in grassroots mobilisation, women’s leadership development, youth empowerment and community advocacy across Lagos State.

Ojelabi described the Hamzat–Sonayon-James ticket as one capable of driving continuity and inclusive growth, urging voters to support the APC in the upcoming election.
