A suspected bandit attack on Ayegunle Bunu community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State has left one person dead and more than 30 others abducted.

According to a report by The Guardian Nigeria, the attackers stormed the community in the early hours of Sunday, disrupting the peace of the area and carrying out a coordinated raid on residents and travellers.

Sources said the gunmen killed one resident whose identity had yet to be confirmed at the time of reporting. A man, his wife and about 30 other residents were reportedly taken away at gunpoint during the operation.

The assailants were also said to have laid an ambush along a nearby highway, where they intercepted commercial vehicles and abducted passengers. The exact number of travellers kidnapped during the attack was not immediately known.

The raid, which reportedly occurred around 2:25 a.m., also left several residents injured.

Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Kogi State Police Command were unsuccessful. Police Public Relations Officer ASP Oyiza Saliu could not be reached for comments as of press time.

The latest attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity and recurring kidnappings in parts of Kogi State and other areas of north-central Nigeria.
