Fresh Resignations Shake PDP Structure in Oyo Ahead of 2027

Fresh resignations have hit the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Oyo State, intensifying concerns over the party’s stability ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to Tribune Online, several party members and chieftains in the state have continued to leave the PDP amid lingering internal disputes and uncertainty over the party’s national leadership crisis.

The development follows a series of high-profile defections and resignations within the party in recent months. Former House of Representatives candidate Olufemi Onireti earlier resigned from the PDP in Oyo, citing personal reflection and political considerations.

Also, Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo recently announced his resignation from the party, blaming unresolved national-level crises and fears of future legal complications for his political ambition.

The PDP has also faced setbacks outside Oyo. Bala Mohammed resigned from the party and joined the Allied Peoples Movement, citing the worsening leadership crisis after a Supreme Court ruling on the party’s convention dispute.

Speculation has also continued around the political future of Seyi Makinde, although his aides have denied reports that he plans to leave the PDP.

Political observers say the wave of resignations in Oyo could weaken the Party’s grassroots structure in one of its remaining strongholds in the South-West as realignments ahead of 2027 gather momentum.

He said the library housed vital resources used by students, lecturers and researchers.   Witnesses said thick smoke spread across the campus during the incident, while staff and residents attempted to salvage materials from the building.
