Immigration: President Tinubu approves appointment of new CG

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mrs Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju as the substantive Comptroller-General (CG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

The President also approved the appointment of six Deputy Comptroller General of the Service with effect from January 1st, 2023.

The Secretary to the Board of the Civil Defence, Nigeria Immigration, Fire and Correctional Services, Alhaji Ahmed Jaafaru announced on Monday, December 4.

Jaafaru in a statement he signed gave the names of the six Deputy Comptrollers-General as Zainab Lawal, Auna Usman Aliyu, Nandap Kemi Nannan and Usman Babangida.

Others are Hassan Sadat and Emenike Ijeoma Chidi.

Jaafaru’s statement read:” Adepoju who has been on acting capacity since 1st June 2023, was born to the family of Mr. and Mrs Olatunji Akinrinsola on 13/7/1963 in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State in South-West Nigeria.

“She attended Christ Girls’ School, Ado Ekiti, where she obtained a West African Examination Certificate in 1980. She attended the University of Maiduguri, where she got a degree in the faculty of Science in 1985.

“In 1987, she proceeded to the University of Ibadan, where she obtained her Masters Degree in Chemistry. She also has a certificate program from Trios College Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Paralegal Studies.

“Until her appointment, she was the Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) in charge of the Finance and Account Directorate.

“As an NIS officer, CGI Wura-Olu, attended some trainings, including; Immigration Training School Kano, Immigration Command, and Staff College Sokoto, National Institute for Security Studies Lower Usman Dam Bwari, Abuja, and Emotional Intelligence and Transformation Leadership.

“She is also a fellow of the Pass Command Course, a fellow Security Institute of Nigeria, and a Member Law Society of Upper Canada. She is happily married with children.”

Soldiers raid UNIOSUN hostels, students allege assault and seizure of phones

Military personnel from the Army Depot in Osogbo have been accused of invading student hostels at the University of Osun (UNIOSUN), allegedly assaulting students and confiscating dozens of mobile phones.   According to TheCable, the incident occurred on Monday night and affected several off-campus hostels near the university. Speaking during a visit to the affected hostels on Tuesday, Vice-Chancellor Clement Adeboye said the university had formally reported the incident to the management of the Army Depot. “We have reported to the management of the depot. It is sad that the Army Depot, located close to the campus, which we felt would give us security cover, could eventually release men that will subject our students to this kind of harrowing experience,” he said. UNIOSUN spokesperson Ademola Adesoji alleged that more than 20 students had been identified as victims of the operation. He claimed some female students reported being stripped and indecently touched by the soldiers, while several male students were also assaulted. Adesoji said two students were hospitalised following the incident, with one discharged on Tuesday morning. He further alleged that the soldiers seized more than 60 devices, including mobile phones, from the students. “Over 60 gadgets, including phones, were seized from the students. Five of the perpetrators were identified and brought to the campus this morning,” Adesoji told TheCable. “But they were later returned to the military base. The army division said they would be dismissed. “The VC has taken the matter up with the army authority. We can’t confirm the alleged rape yet.” There has been no official response from the Nigerian Army at the time of filing this report.
