The House of Representatives has summoned top security officials, including the Minister of Defence, service chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police and intelligence heads, over the management of security funding in the past six months, according to a report by Channels Television.
The resolution was passed during plenary on Tuesday following motions on rising insecurity across parts of the country.
Those invited include the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Director-General of the State Security Service, Adeola Ajayi, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed. The Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, is also expected to appear before the lawmakers.
The House of Representatives, part of the National Assembly of Nigeria, said the briefing will focus on how funds released to security agencies have been utilised over the last six months.
Lawmakers also called on President Bola Tinubu to expand the recruitment of forest guards across states facing insecurity. The move follows earlier approval for 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State, which has recently experienced abductions.
Recent incidents cited during the debate include the kidnapping of students and teachers in parts of Oyo State and Borno State, which triggered nationwide concern and protests by groups such as the Nigerian Union of Teachers.
The resolution comes amid renewed calls for stronger security responses and accountability in the deployment of federal security resources.
