Iran has accused the United States of breaching a fragile ceasefire agreement over the past 48 hours, escalating tensions in the Gulf region amid ongoing diplomatic talks.
According to a report by Punch Newspapers, Iran’s foreign ministry alleged on Tuesday that US forces carried out actions in the southern coastal province of Hormozgan despite the ceasefire arrangement.
The Iranian government claimed the “US terrorist army” committed a “gross violation” of the ceasefire, warning that Tehran would respond to any aggression against the country.
The accusation followed statements from US Central Command confirming that American forces struck missile launch sites and boats in southern Iran on Monday. The US military said the operations targeted threats linked to attempts to lay mines in the Gulf.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards also claimed they fired at US aircraft allegedly attempting to enter Iranian airspace.
The latest developments come as senior Iranian officials are in Qatar for negotiations aimed at ending hostilities between Tehran and Washington after months of heightened conflict.
Global concern has continued to grow over instability around the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil shipping route, with fears that renewed clashes could disrupt energy supplies and push up crude oil prices.
