Iran’s football federation has accused the United States of revoking its allocated ticket quota for Iranian supporters ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The federation said on Tuesday that the decision affects Iran’s group stage matches scheduled in the US against New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt. It claimed the move comes amid rising diplomatic tensions between Tehran and Washington.
Iran stated that FIFA regulations require participating teams to receive around eight per cent of match tickets for distribution to supporters. It added that ticket sales for Iranian fans had already begun before the alleged withdrawal.
According to the federation, the US has introduced bureaucratic barriers, including visa restrictions affecting parts of its delegation and support staff. It also claimed that around 15 administrative personnel have been unable to obtain entry visas.
The Iranian body described the alleged decision as inconsistent with international football rules and called on FIFA and tournament organisers to ensure equal treatment for all participating nations.
Neither FIFA nor US organisers have publicly responded to the allegations at the time of reporting.
Iran is scheduled to open its World Cup campaign against New Zealand in Los Angeles on 15 June, followed by matches against Belgium and Egypt in the United States.
