The Lagos State Police Command says it has intercepted a truck carrying 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illicit substances during an intelligence-led operation along the Lekki-Epe corridor in Lagos.
According to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, the operation was carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit after receiving intelligence about the movement of the items.
Police arrested four suspects who were allegedly transporting the cargo. Investigators believe the truck was heading from Lagos to a destination in south-eastern Nigeria.
Fatai told journalists at the police command headquarters in Ikeja that officers acted swiftly after receiving information about the shipment.
“Following the intelligence, the vehicle was intercepted and those transporting the items were arrested. They are currently in our custody and investigations are ongoing,” he said.
The commissioner disclosed that the suspected illicit substances were being transported alongside the military camouflage uniforms.
Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the source of the uniforms, their intended recipients, and the purpose of the shipment. Police are also working to identify and arrest other individuals connected to the operation.
Fatai noted concerns about the possible misuse of military attire by criminal groups, saying security agencies have previously encountered armed groups and bandits wearing such uniforms.
The suspects remain in police custody while investigations continue.
