Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has been formally announced as the presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement for the 2027 general election.
According to a report by Channels Television, Makinde accepted the nomination at an event held in Ibadan, where he outlined plans centred on governance reforms, economic restructuring, and improved living conditions for Nigerians.
Makinde stated that his ambition was driven by a commitment to national renewal rather than personal interest. He emphasised the need for practical reforms that would directly impact citizens and restore public confidence in government.
He called for significant changes in the oil and gas sector, proposing a restructuring of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) into a more efficient and commercially driven institution. He also stressed that Nigeria’s vast natural resources must translate into tangible benefits for citizens.
On food security, the governor highlighted the importance of reliable agricultural data to address gaps in production, storage, and logistics. He noted that no resource-rich nation should allow widespread hunger among its population.
Makinde also described his leadership approach as focused on competence and delivery, stating that governance must prioritise listening, learning, and action rather than political rhetoric.
The event reportedly attracted political stakeholders, including delegations from across the country, with endorsements highlighting his experience and leadership qualities as key strengths for the 2027 race.
