A grieving mother in Rivers State, Amarachi Promise Esomonu, has demanded justice after her three children were killed in a tragic car accident in the Ogbunabali area of Port Harcourt.
According to a report by PUNCH Newspapers, the incident happened on May 15 when a man allegedly allowed his girlfriend to practise driving. The woman, who was reportedly behind the wheel, lost control and crashed into the family’s residence.
The crash killed the woman’s three children, aged 10, four and three.
A resident who spoke anonymously said the children were inside the house when the vehicle rammed into the building.
“The children were at home when it happened. A young man was teaching his girlfriend how to drive. People started shouting before the car crashed into the woman’s house,” the source said.
A viral video circulating online showed the devastated mother sobbing as she called for justice over the deaths of her children.
Esomonu said the pain of losing her children continues daily, especially when her morning alarm rings for school preparations.
“Every day I wake up in the morning and remember them. Every day, my alarm rings, but there are no children for me to prepare for school again,” she lamented.
She also accused those allegedly responsible for the accident of showing little concern after the tragedy.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko Agabe, said the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, had ordered a thorough investigation.
The police said the incident had caused widespread grief across the state and assured the bereaved family that justice would be served.
“The command has commenced a thorough investigation into the incident,” the statement said.
The police also urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information while investigations continue.
