Africa’s most influential youth festival, Mainland BlockParty, is starting the New Year strong, announcing hip-hop titan Olamide as the headliner for the highly anticipated ‘Mission 26k.’

Scheduled for Thursday, January 1, 2026, at the expansive Mainland Wonderland, this edition is a declaration of scale, following up on the success of its ‘Wale in Wonderland’ event on Boxing Day.

‘Mission 26k’ is the platform’s most ambitious target yet, aiming to host 26,000 people for a high-energy music experience that perfectly captures the spirit of Africa’s youth scene. The choice of Olamide, often hailed as the “Voice of the Street,” signals a major cultural moment.

The announcement comes just weeks after the rapper cemented his global dominance by becoming the first African rapper to sell out the iconic OVO Arena Wembley in London, reaffirming his status as an unparalleled live performer whose influence spans continents.

Speaking on the historic pull, Rebecca Adeyanju, Head of Products at The Plug, described the headliner as essential to the platform’s mission. “This is about setting the tone for the entire year. Olamide connects deeply with our community, and his music speaks to people across the world,” Adeyanju said.

“Few artists embody the growth, sound, and drive of the African streets the way he does. He is a generational talent, and his impact is central to what the Mainland BlockParty represents. Having Baddo headline ‘Mission 26k’ is a major moment for us, and we are ready to give fans the show they have been waiting for,” she added.

Since its launch in 2018, Mainland BlockParty has grown from a local gathering into a globally recognised festival, celebrated for its commitment to accessibility, authenticity, and youth leadership.

This yearly ‘Mission’ strategy reflects the platform’s exponential growth. From ‘Mission 24k’ with Adekunle Gold to ‘Mission 25k’ with Seyi Vibez, the BlockParty has constantly pushed the envelope, connecting music and beautiful people.

Anticipation for the performance is at a fever pitch, driven by the massive success of Olamide’s eponymous 2025 album, Olamidé, which featured collaborations with stars like Wizkid, Asake, and Seyi Vibez. Fans expect a high-volume setlist that moves seamlessly between his latest chart-toppers and his decade-plus catalogue of street anthems.

As Mainland BlockParty continues its global expansion, with recent editions held in Abuja, Accra, London, and New York, the Lagos show remains the pulsing core of its movement, shaping the direction of contemporary African music, nightlife, and creative expression.

‘Mission 26k’ is powered by Bet9ja. Other partners include ALAT by Wema, Guinness, Jameson, Johnnie Walker, Pepsi, and Rexona. Tickets to the festival are available on https://mainlandblockparty.com/events/

FG approves major NYSC reform, civilian to lead agency

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a comprehensive reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), marking the first major overhaul of the scheme since its establishment 53 years ago.   According to Channels Television, the reforms aim to transform the NYSC into a skill-oriented, productivity-driven institution that empowers young Nigerians and supports the Federal Government’s goal of building a $1 trillion economy. As part of the approved changes, the Federal Executive Council directed the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Ministry of Youth to amend the NYSC Act and its regulations to reflect the new framework, allowing for its immediate implementation. A key aspect of the reform is that the NYSC will now be headed by a civilian in its operational leadership. The military will, however, continue to provide security for corps members across the country. The government said the leadership change is intended to reposition the scheme beyond its traditional structure and strengthen its focus on skills development, productivity, and youth empowerment. The NYSC was established by Decree No. 24 of May 22, 1973, following the Nigerian Civil War. It was created to promote national unity, reconciliation, and stronger ties among Nigerian youths through a mandatory one-year national service programme. The scheme is currently headed by Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu. The latest reforms represent the first holistic review of the NYSC since its inception in 1973.
