Some parts of the Federal Capital Territory will be without power supply for hours on Thursday following planned maintenance by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in its Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

The General Manager of Public Affairs, TCN, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

This latest development comes amid a series of national grid failures that have repeatedly plunged the country into widespread blackouts.

According to her, the maintenance of the 132/33kV transmission substation is to enable TCN engineers to install a new 33kV disconnector on the L31 line bay.

The maintenance is scheduled to commence from 9 am Thursday, 24 October 2024, to 6 pm.

“This is to enable TCN engineers to install a new 33kV disconnector on the L31 line bay.

“The maintenance is scheduled for Thursday, 24th October 2024, from 9 am to 6 pm.”

The statement added that only one 60MVA power transformer will be out of bulk power supply for nine hours, consequently, Abuja Distribution Company will be unable to off-take bulk power from the affected 60MVA power transformer for onward distribution to its customers.

The locations include Galadima, Kabusa, Sunnyvale, Suncity Estate, Wonderland, Human Right Radio, Brilla FM, Kubusa Garden Estate, Jewel Apartment and environs.

“During the period, only one 60MVA power transformer will be out of bulk power supply for nine hours, consequently, Abuja Distribution Company will be unable to offtake bulk power from the affected 60MVA power transformer for onward distribution to its customers in Galadima, Kabusa, Sunnyvale, Suncity Estate, Wonderland, Human Right Radio, Brilla FM, Kubusa Garden Estate, Jewel Apartment and environs.

TCN apologises for any inconvenience this may cause electricity consumers in the affected areas and notes that adherence to power equipment maintenance is essential for optimal performance,” the statement concluded.

Soldiers raid UNIOSUN hostels, students allege assault and seizure of phones

Military personnel from the Army Depot in Osogbo have been accused of invading student hostels at the University of Osun (UNIOSUN), allegedly assaulting students and confiscating dozens of mobile phones.   According to TheCable, the incident occurred on Monday night and affected several off-campus hostels near the university. Speaking during a visit to the affected hostels on Tuesday, Vice-Chancellor Clement Adeboye said the university had formally reported the incident to the management of the Army Depot. “We have reported to the management of the depot. It is sad that the Army Depot, located close to the campus, which we felt would give us security cover, could eventually release men that will subject our students to this kind of harrowing experience,” he said. UNIOSUN spokesperson Ademola Adesoji alleged that more than 20 students had been identified as victims of the operation. He claimed some female students reported being stripped and indecently touched by the soldiers, while several male students were also assaulted. Adesoji said two students were hospitalised following the incident, with one discharged on Tuesday morning. He further alleged that the soldiers seized more than 60 devices, including mobile phones, from the students. “Over 60 gadgets, including phones, were seized from the students. Five of the perpetrators were identified and brought to the campus this morning,” Adesoji told TheCable. “But they were later returned to the military base. The army division said they would be dismissed. “The VC has taken the matter up with the army authority. We can’t confirm the alleged rape yet.” There has been no official response from the Nigerian Army at the time of filing this report.
