President Bola Tinubu secured decisive victories in key Lagos wards during the All Progressives Congress presidential primary held on Saturday, reinforcing his bid for a second term ahead of the 2027 general election.

Tinubu polled 4,996 votes at Ward L2 in Eti-Osa Local Government Area, Lagos, emerging winner of the exercise conducted under the APC’s direct primary system.

The President and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, arrived at the polling centre in Ikoyi on Saturday morning amid heavy security presence to participate in the exercise.

At Ward D3 on Lagos Island, Tinubu also recorded victory with 1,887 votes at the polling unit where Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu cast his ballot.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who attended the exercise alongside his wife, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, praised party members for the peaceful conduct and turnout during the primary.

“I commend the 1,887 votes recorded for President Bola Tinubu. The process has been peaceful and orderly. I thank party members for their patience and support for the APC and our leader,” the governor said.

Tinubu defeated businessman Sterlyn Osifo in the primary election as APC members across the country’s 8,809 wards participated in the selection of the party’s presidential candidate.

Voting began early in several locations, including Ward L2 at Ireti Nursery and Primary School, Mekwen Street, Queens Drive, Eti-Osa, where party supporters gathered from about 8 a.m.

Among party leaders present at the exercise were former Minister of Finance Wale Edun, APC Lagos State Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, and party chieftain Kola Peregrino.

Speaking earlier, Ojelabi described the exercise as smooth and crisis-free.

“The rewards of your loyalty to the party will yield benefits in due course. Thank you for the wonderful support for our President and the APC,” he said.

Ward returning officer Martha Adikwu announced that Tinubu secured 4,996 votes out of 5,163 registered voters in Ward L2.
