A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to block former President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election, according to TheCable.
The judgment, delivered on Tuesday by Justice Peter Lifu, held that the plaintiff, JohnMary Jideobi, lacked the legal standing (locus standi) to institute the case as he did not demonstrate any personal injury arising from Jonathan’s alleged intention to run.
The court further ruled that the suit was incompetent and awarded costs against the claimant. It imposed a N20 million fine in favour of Goodluck Jonathan and an additional N1 million in favour of the Attorney-General of the Federation.
With the ruling, the legal challenge against Jonathan’s eligibility for the 2027 presidential poll has been struck out, bringing the matter before the court to an end.
