A Nigerian cleric has cautioned couples against maintaining long-distance marriages, warning that physical separation can weaken marital stability and increase exposure to temptation, according to a report by Gistlover.
The remarks were made by Sarah Omakwu during an episode of her “Marriage Is Sweet” series, where she discussed modern relationship patterns and the growing trend of spouses living in different cities or countries.
She stated that marriage is designed for partners to live under the same roof, stressing that physical closeness plays a key role in emotional connection, trust and intimacy within a union.
Omakwu questioned how couples separated by distance meet their emotional and intimate needs, noting that prolonged separation may create vulnerability to external influences.
She also linked long-distance arrangements to increased risks of infidelity and exposure to online sexual content, particularly in an era where digital media is easily accessible.
The cleric further emphasised transparency between partners, suggesting that openness regarding personal devices can help strengthen trust and reduce suspicion in relationships.
