Governor Seyi Makinde has disclosed that schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State are still being held within the Old Oyo National Park, as security agencies intensify search and rescue operations.

Seyi Makinde made the disclosure in his Newsletter No. 140, noting that the victims have remained in captivity for 27 days following coordinated attacks on schools in Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle communities in Oriire Local Government Area.

The abductees were taken during separate raids on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School, Esiele.

According to the governor, intelligence reports suggest the victims are being held within the wider Old Oyo National Park axis, a vast terrain spanning about 2,500 square kilometres across parts of 10 local government areas.

Old Oyo National Park is described as posing significant operational challenges due to its difficult terrain, which authorities say has complicated ongoing rescue efforts.

Makinde said security agencies are pursuing all credible leads and deploying lawful measures to secure the safe release of the abductees. He added that residents should remain vigilant and report suspicious activity through the state’s toll-free line, 615.

He also cautioned against misinformation, warning that unverified reports could disrupt ongoing operations.

The statement was published via The PUNCH, which has continued to track developments on the abduction case.
