The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 1,889 personnel across Kano State for a week-long special patrol operation ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Kano State Sector Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran, the deployment includes regular officers and special marshals tasked with ensuring safer roads, smooth traffic flow and rapid emergency response during the festive period.

The operation, which began on May 25 and will run until May 31, forms part of the corps’ annual festive season traffic management strategy aimed at addressing increased vehicular movement on major highways.

The Kano Sector Commander, Idris Lawal, said the patrol was designed to reduce road crashes, fatalities, congestion and other emergencies often associated with the Sallah celebrations.

He stated that the command had mobilised operational logistics and personnel to monitor critical routes and flashpoints across the state.

The command also deployed 24 patrol vehicles, four ambulances, one heavy-duty tow truck, two operational motorcycles, radar guns, breathalysers and other traffic management equipment to strategic locations.

Lawal added that unit commanders and officers across the 44 local government areas had been directed to maintain aggressive visibility patrols and full operational coverage throughout the exercise.

The FRSC said enforcement would focus on traffic offences such as speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline, use of mobile phones while driving and operation of mechanically deficient vehicles.

The command further disclosed that mobile courts would remain active across the state to ensure speedy prosecution of offenders, while emergency rescue teams had been placed on maximum alert.

Motorists were urged to comply with traffic regulations and avoid reckless driving during the celebrations. The FRSC also encouraged road users to use its toll-free emergency number 122 to report crashes, traffic obstructions and other emergencies.
