The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed surveillance aircraft to support ongoing search-and-rescue operations for schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State, according to a report by Channels Television.

The victims were kidnapped on May 15 during a deadly attack on Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. One teacher was reportedly killed while in captivity, intensifying public concern and calls for urgent action.

During a briefing cited by Channels Television, Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed that the Nigerian Air Force immediately deployed aerial surveillance assets after the incident. The aircraft have since been providing intelligence to ground forces involved in the rescue effort.

The governor also noted that data gathered from the missions has been assisting security agencies in tracking movements linked to the abductors and coordinating operations aimed at securing the victims’ release.

Military officials, including representatives of the Chief of the Air Staff, reaffirmed continued support for joint operations, stressing collaboration with other security agencies to improve rescue outcomes.

The abduction involved pupils and teachers from Baptist Nursery and Primary School (Yawota), Community Grammar School (Esiele), and L.A. Primary School. The incident triggered protests from education stakeholders and civil society groups, while lawmakers urged swift government action.

Authorities say surveillance operations remain active as efforts continue to locate and rescue the remaining victims safely.
