Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has described her years in the Senate as a period when the National Assembly was “really, really good,” in comments seen by analysts as a subtle criticism of the current 10th Senate.
According to Punch Newspapers, Mrs Tinubu made the remarks during the flag-off ceremony for the distribution of farm inputs to farmers in Minna, Niger State.
The former Lagos senator, who served in the Seventh, Eighth and Ninth National Assemblies between 2015 and 2023, said it was always a pleasure reconnecting with her former colleagues, many of whom now serve in the Federal Executive Council.
Political analysts interviewed by Arewa PUNCH interpreted the comments as a comparison between previous Senates and the current assembly, with some critics describing the present Senate as too close to the executive arm of government.
During the same event, Mrs Tinubu also praised the Niger State Government for advancing mechanised agriculture, saying the initiative signalled Nigeria’s readiness to strengthen food production and commercial farming.
