A train on the Warri–Itakpe Train Service has derailed, killing three passengers and prompting an emergency response from authorities, according to the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), as reported by Channels Television.

The incident occurred on Monday, with the NRC confirming that rescue and safety teams were immediately deployed to the scene to assist affected passengers and manage the situation. The corporation said it was closely monitoring developments and would issue a fuller report once more details are confirmed.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation stated that relevant emergency agencies were working at the site to provide assistance following the derailment. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Kayode Opeifa said an investigation into the cause of the incident is expected.

The latest derailment comes less than a month after the Warri–Itakpe corridor was temporarily suspended for operational and safety assessments. It also follows previous incidents on Nigeria’s rail network, including derailments in 2025 that raised concerns over infrastructure safety and maintenance.

Authorities have not yet released details on the cause of the crash or the identities of the victims. Operations along the affected route remain under review.
